Preschool/Kindergarten/First Grade Bilingual Program
Location: Brazil: Vitoria
Length of Position: 2 years
Description
Centro Educacional Leonardo da Vinci is a private school located in Vitoria, Espirito Santo, a mid-sized coastal city a few hours north of Rio de Janeiro. Following in a strong tradition of excellence in foreign language education, it offers a bilingual preschool/kindergarten/first grade program which was inaugurated in February 2006. The salary will be based on institution's salary scale, highly competitive in the Brazilian market, right now 4,000 reais (Brazilian currency). Review of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
The teacher will work with an aide from 7:15am to 5:15pm, from Monday to Friday, with 2 different groups (alternating) of up to 22 children each (3 to 6 years old). On Fridays there is a different schedule: in the morning the teacher works with the children and in the afternoon has some meetings or parent/teacher conferences scheduled throughout the year. It's important that the teacher gradually starts to learn Portuguese to understand the children's needs, but the teacher has to use exclusively the English language in the classroom.
The teacher will accompany the children through snack and lunch time and help with their shower and hygiene (an aide will be always helping).
The teacher is required to attend a weekly faculty and staff meeting from 05:30-07:00pm. Throughout the year the teacher will be requested to attend a few lectures at night, and a few Saturday morning sections.
We encourage all the teachers to write articles about the work done in their classrooms for our website.
The teacher will not be teaching the English subject, but teaching all the subjects in English.
Highlights
Leonardo da Vinci is a great school. There is a wide range of materials to work with, fine children's literature books, lots of DVDs, computers, flash cards. The school will provide lunch and snacks throughout the day. The teacher will have several holidays during the year, two vacations (from December 20 to January 25, plus 2 weeks in July).
The teacher should arrive in Brazil no later than January 15, 2013, and be committed to work until December 2014.
The school provides a round airfare ticket to the home country in the second year to teachers hired abroad (2014).
