Description

Work as an conservationist volunteer in the beautiful country of Costa Rica. Your work as a volunteer will help to preserve and improve the country's ecology system in the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, which is situated at the extreme southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. With its unique combination of climate and geographical location, it ranks among the most beautiful nature reserves in Costa Rica. The 1,172-hectare reserve, the oldest protected area in the country, was created in October 1963 thanks to the tireless efforts of Nils Olof Wessberg, a Swedish immigrant commonly referred to as the father of Costa Rica's national park system. The hiking trails are generally the main attraction of the reserve and they lead to some of the best scenic areas in the entire country making Cabo Blanco one of the most visited places in Costa Rica.

Volunteers in this program will get the chance to experience this incredible natural beauty first hand by working and studying inside the park. Volunteers will mainly be involved in the general maintenance of the park but environmental science students or anyone interested in the natural world are encouraged to apply. The minimum time commitment for this program is four weeks and volunteers will work Monday to Friday.

Volunteer activities may include:

* Trail and road maintenance
* Helping with the upkeep of the gardens and other environmental areas.
* Infrastructure maintenance (helping local staff repair public areas etc.).
* Housekeeping around the public house and shop.
* Helping to keep the beaches clean.
* General maintenance around the perimeter of the reserve.
