Make a lasting difference through volunteering as you participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to Italy and immerse yourself into a local community, experiencing the culture firsthand. GeoVisions' Conversation Corps provides native English speakers a chance to live with an Italian family and teach them conversational English. This opportunity will be an amazing adventure of living in your teaching environment and being completely immersed in the fascinating culture of Italy. This position is incredibly unique and requires a lot of energy and dedication to working with the family and coming up with creative ways to help teach them English. We provide the materials and you provide the personality to liven up a family class or dinner conversation!
This is a great program for people who want to experience life in Italy and the Italian culture in-depth. The program has a focus on cultural exchange and host families are not only excited to learn English but also love to share the characteristics of their amazing country, culture and cuisine.
Duties and responsibilities include:
* Teaching the host family English up to 15 hours a week Monday to Friday.
* Come up with creative, fun and informative lesson plans.
* Keep your room tidy and clean.
* Respect host family's rules and habits.
* Manage your own personal expenses (telephone bills, clothing, entertainment and spending money).
* Helping children with their English homework.
* Play games in English with the children.
* Create and teach educational games and activities.
Highlights
Conversation Corps volunteers receive instruction on how to teach English, with specific activities for teaching English in a home to a family. Your orientation is held on site in Rome. Transportation to the host family is also included.
Qualifications
Participants will instruct their host families in English and must be native speakers. They need to have earned a high school (secondary school) diploma or certificate, be of good character, in good health and be polite and respectful to the family's rules and habits.
Placements are available year 'round and range in duration from one to three months. Participants must devote up to 15 hours per week, Monday thru Friday, for lessons and conversation.
