Description
Experience Italy as a volunteer! Our partnership with teachers and administrators in several small towns in the Pulia region puts you directly in touch with students on a daily basis. Volunteers help plan each day's work using English texts and established lesson plans, reviewing exercises the students have completed and will be studying in the near term. Volunteers also serve as resources on topics of American culture, including discussions on American history, lifestyles, sports and school systems. Some volunteers teach American songs and games while others provide instruction on continuing dialogues and writing letters.
Highlights
As a lauded tourist destination, Italy exudes familiarity to international travelers. But what many tourists miss is a meaningful connection on a human level. Building relationships based upon mutual respect and seeing another country as a "non-tourist", this is the goal of the Global Volunteers Italy Program. In the afternoons and evenings, you might share a meal and conversation with teachers, students and their families. On the weekend, art enthusiasts can visit one or more of the many local churches showcasing magnificent paintings and sculptures. Among the nearby historic destinations, the brilliant coastline will lure nature lovers, while culture buffs can tour the Peninsula of Salento, sometimes called the 'Spur of Italy.
You'll stay in a lovely full-service hotel, centrally located within walking distance of the area's attractions. You'll enjoy team meals at wonderful restaurants featuring authentic Italian cuisine.

We engage short-term volunteers on long-term development projects to create, nurture and sustain the wellbeing of the world's children - so they can realize the full promise of their human potential. Each year, we mobilize up to 300 teams of volunteers to work alongside local people on work projects central to their advancement. We also raise funds to support our international and domestic partners and to provide sponsorships for educational, social and medical assistance.
